Today I will announce the winner of The Black Fountain Goddess: #giveaway + #bookreview.
Why I’m Announcing the Winner at a Later Date than I Originally Promised
I have to apologize for not creating and publishing this post yesterday; my mother tripped and fell at 9:45 pm on Christmas night. Initially, she picked herself up, walked about ten feet to a chair, and sat down. When she went to get up, at 10:30 pm, she couldn’t. She was in a lot of pain. We called 911. The EMTs had to carry her out of the house using a special chair/lifting device. Mom was then rushed her to the hospital. I was the one who went with her.
I spent multiple hours in the emergency room, patiently (sometimes impatiently) waiting for the doctor to relay some news to us. The doctor ordered X-rays, found nothing broken (thank God!) and then ordered a CT scan, which couldn’t be done until 9 or 10 am. At 3:30 am, I finally went home, to get a few hours of shuteye and then to await a call from the hospital. I hated to leave my mom there, but she was given more painkillers and I knew she was in good hands.
I was really worried about her, and scared, too. I didn’t know what was going to happen if she was unable to walk again! I did some heavy praying, let me tell you, and had a lot of trouble sleeping.
When I didn’t hear anything the next morning, I called the hospital at 1:30 pm and was told they were going to send my mom home.
My sister and I went to pick her up. With a brace (a knee immobilizer) on her leg, and assistance from a walker as well as some painkillers, my mom is now able to get around again. Phew! She’s also going to see someone at the Fracture Clinic on January 5th, 2015. They are following up with her regarding her injury.
So… the last thing on my mind yesterday was this giveaway. I’m sure you all will understand and forgive me for being a day late, right?!

I have emailed him, too, with a PDF of Risky Issues, as well as instructions on how to claim the rest of his prize.
Congratulations, Billy! 🙂
How was YOUR Christmas?
Until my mom had her accident, Christmas was going quite well. My family gathered together to celebrate, eat, reminisce, open gifts, and create memories for the youngsters.
My mom put out a great spread: turkey, cranberries, stuffing, perogies, ham, cabbage rolls, tropical marshmallow salad, fresh veggies, pickles, olives, and strawberry shortcake (for dessert). Plus, Mom had put together a tray of baking (at least 10 different sweets).
Everything was homemade. My mother is an EXCELLENT cook.
She had a full house. My son and I were there. My sister, her boyfriend, and their two little ones were there. My sister’s oldest child (my niece) and her boyfriend were there, too. My mother and father were there (obviously). And Santa had dropped by earlier that day, too!
Overall, I had a great Christmas. How was yours?
Please share in the comments!
Plus, I really would like to hear what you did to celebrate the holiday… if you celebrate it at all!
Talk soon!

Sorry to hear about your Mom. it was just Mom and I for Christmas dinner, but we had roast goose and it was delicious! It was 60 degrees, no snow, so it felt like summer. I always like a white Christmas. Glad you had a good day!
Jo Ann, thanks for sharing details about your Christmas. I hope you and your mom enjoyed it, too!
I like a white Christmas as well, and it has not snowed here for some time. It looks like autumn, not winter!
But I’m sure the snow is coming…
My mom is doing a bit better; she has an appointment with the Fracture Clinic on the 5th. Plus her pain is slowly subsiding.
I had a great day, and enjoyed spending time with my family. 🙂
Lorraine,
What an ordeal for you and your family–and of course, your mom! I am glad to hear that she is at home now, and, I hope, feeling better. My best wishes for her speedy recovery. Needless to say, family emergencies trump all else!
I want to say again how much I appreciate your “hosting” the giveaway for my book. I am grateful to everyone who took the time to enter–and congratulations to Billy:)
Best wishes, Lorraine, for 2015. I look forward to reading LETTERS TO JULIAN when it is published.
Regards,
Jean
Jean, thank YOU. It was a pleasure having you on my blog, being a part of the giveaway, and interacting with you again!
Mom’s doing better now and her pain is dissipating. I’m still working on my book, but I’ll let you know when it’s world-ready.
All the best to you in 2015, Jean!
